Materials
- Yarn that knits to the gauge below (worsted weight is typical).
- Needles: 4.5 mm (US 7) — worsted weight — use whatever size gives you the gauge. A 16 in (40 cm) circular plus DPNs or a long circular for magic loop.
- 8 stitch markers (one in a contrasting color for the start of round).
- Tapestry needle, scissors.
- Yarn amount: about 120 yd / 109 m. Estimate only — based on stitch count and gauge, plus 15% margin. Buy a little extra.
Assumptions
- Knit in stockinette (all knit rounds) with a 2x2 ribbed brim.
- Counts are calculated from your measured gauge swatch.
- Stitch count is rounded to a multiple of 8 so the rib and the 8-section crown both work out evenly.
Instructions
Construction: in the round, bottom-up. No chart needed.
- 1. Cast on
CO 104 sts. Pm and join in the rnd, being careful not to twist.

Finishing & blocking
- Weave in all ends on the inside.
- Wet block: soak the hat in cool water, squeeze out (don't wring), roll in a towel, and dry flat or over a balloon sized just under your head circumference. Don't stretch the ribbing.

Pattern checks
- Required measurements present. Head circumference and hat height entered.
- Measured gauge swatch present. Using your measured swatch.
- Stitch counts reconcile after every increase/decrease. All counts match.
- Repeats fit the available stitches. Every repeat divides evenly.
- Body is long enough for the crown. Body has positive length before the crown.
- Units are consistent. All values shown in in.
- Material estimates labeled as estimates. Yarn amount is marked as an estimate.
"Calculations Checked" means the math reconciles — not that anyone has physically made this hat.
